Clinical process improvement

Dr. Jess Boyer is responsible for clinical governance and clinical process change consultancy at RealTime Health Ltd. Jess has over 25 years’ medical management experience, including eight years as either CEO or CMO in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. Over the past 12 years, Jess has done turnaround consulting for hospitals and physician groups. He works collaboratively with physicians and other clinicians and develops innovative medical management programs that save millions of dollars while enhancing quality of care.

Jess has achieved impressive results through focusing on medical management and clinical improvements. He has developed or significantly retooled and implemented innovative medical management programs that are driven by the use of information to focus activities. The success and sustainability of these programs is a direct result of his staff development skills, particularly his ability to work effectively and collaboratively with physicians in both clinical and management roles throughout organizations.

Over the course of his medical management career, his responsibilities have included utilization management, quality management, chronic disease management, frail elderly care coordination, and preventive care programs. In addition, Jess has managed medical office operations, finance including claims and billing, strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, and sales and marketing. He possesses a unique ability to find and develop physician leaders. He has also worked on changing governance in IPAs and group practices, and has served on the Board of Directors of integrated healthcare organizations and Internet start-ups.

Dr Boyer has organized and delivered education and training programs for physician managers and healthcare executives. The topics have included general management and leadership skills, teamwork, quality improvement, and principles of managed healthcare.

He received his education and training at the University of California, San Diego. Dr Boyer is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric nephrology. He spent two years as a National Kidney Foundation Fellow at the National Institutes of Health. He was on the faculty of Tulane University before moving into the broader healthcare arena. Subsequently, he was an Associate Clinical Professor at UCSD. During his time as a teacher and clinician, he was voted teacher of the year by students and clinician of the year in a 200-physician group practice.
