Software Engineer

Company and Job details

RealTime Health is seeking an additional Software Developer to join our engineering team, working on our clinical discharge support systems.

We help hospitals save millions of pounds by helping them to manage their patients stay, and ensuring that they are discharged at the earliest safe point in their journey. This involves a combination of process improvement consultancy and support by the RealTime software product.

We are a leading player in Health IT and Process Change industry, and are regularly short-listed and recipients of awards in recognition of this fact.

Our office is in Oxford, 5 minutes walk from the Railway Station, as well as commutable by car and public transport.

There is a salary range of c.25k to c.45k pa, plus pension contribution, depending on experience. In addition, there is a c.3k ‘personal budget’ for IT equipment spend.

The work environment

Based in Oxford, you’ll be joining our engineering team. You’ll be working on the whole lifecycle – designing and writing code for the core of our software products and helping customers roll out with our releases.

Our server software is predominantly Java-based, with web-based clients in either HTML or Flex. We are currently trialling native mobile clients such as iPads. Additionally, we integrate with many 3rd party systems, with whatever platform they happen to use.

These are the technologies that we currently use – an interest in, or some experience of any of these would be beneficial but not mandatory:

• Java 6
• Flex 4 / Actionscript 3
• Groovy
• Spring, Hibernate, EHCache
• XML/XSLT/XSL:FO
• JasperReports
• SQL*Server, HSQLDB; HQL, SQL and OLAP
• Apache Camel / ActiveMQ
• CXF
• LDAP
• Maven2
• git
• Windows, Windows Server, Clustering & HA
• Linux
• iOS / Objective-C

Our aim is to foster the ideal environment for software developers to do their best work. We use a developer-friendly, lightweight, backlog-driven agile process to prioritise development. Additionally, you will be given personal budget and discretion to buy the hardware and software tools that you see fit.

The type of person we are looking for

We are a small, growing company; broadly speaking we are looking for people who want to be able to make an impact with what they do, having the attributes of “Smart” and “Gets things done”.

We think people should enjoy their work, so we’re looking for developers who are genuinely interested in what they do – we would expect candidates to have been involved in at least one open source, commercial or personal software project outside of work or university.

If this sounds like you, then please forward your CV and covering letter to jobs@realtimehealth.net
